Net Petticoats and Knicker Pockets

Out walking with Lou, the girls and I were reminiscing. Who remembers those lovely net petticoats, and how many did you wear at once? Full skirts made such a statement in the 50s, celebrating the end of the post-war clothing restrictions, and they held their shape thanks to lots of frilled petticoats of stiffened nylon. Look at the skirts in this Marks and Spencer advert from 1958!

We also talked about menthol cigarettes and pockets in  your school knickers.  I wish they put more pockets into clothes these days. I’m always running out of space for hankies, phone, dog poo bags etc.
