For a long time I have wanted to go to church to sing carols. Nothing quite so lovely or moving than hearing carols being sung.
I finally managed it last night. Four of us went to chuch for carol singing and a few lessons which were read out. One of the group asked if I felt as if I were in church, and I had to think. When I was a churchgoer the church I attended was cold and ornate. Last night the opposite. Warm and welcoming but more basic than the opulence that I remembered.
Enjoyed the singing and after they kindly offered us mulled wine, tea, coffee, mince pies. A lot of work had been done to ensure that the congregation all took something home with them. Mine was pleasant evening, smiling faces and voices all putting their heart and soul into making it memorable, even though there were a couple of very small children who said “I want to go outside”.Everyone heard because you can hear a whisper in church sometimes can’t you?
